Silk Iris in Japanese technique, Workshops
The Silk Iris has always been one of my favourite workshops to teach. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of sharing this beautiful flower with students in different countries, and every workshop has been a unique and inspiring experience.
This class introduces students to a fascinating traditional Japanese silk flower making technique. Using specially prepared silk and traditional heated tools, they learn how to shape, texture and colour each petal before assembling them into a remarkably realistic iris. The transformation of a simple piece of silk into a lifelike flower never fails to amaze, and many students describe the process as almost magical.
One of the reasons I enjoy teaching this workshop so much is seeing the moment when students realise what they are able to create. Even those with no previous experience are often surprised by the beauty and realism of their finished flowers.
Each workshop has brought together wonderful groups of creative people, and although everyone follows the same techniques, every iris is unique, reflecting the personality and artistic style of its maker.
