Creating of silk dog rose in Japanese technique Zoom online class, 12/13 September.

Specially for my online ZOOM class I developed a silk wild(dog)  ROSE in the Japanese technique. This design includes all the essential Japanese flower making techniques. You can use them to create your own beautiful flowers. The flowers made using this technique look much more realistic than flowers made with the traditional French technique.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn this special technique.

Participants will go through all the stages of the process of creating flowers from the silk.

This will include preparation of materials, assembling and finishing techniques.

The class will take around 4 hours.

Class participation will be limited to max 12 people to ensure personal attention

Cost of the class is AU$ 75

To pay for the class please pay here

Course Structure

On securing your place, you will receive an email which includes confirmation, your Zoom invitation, and the pattern to cut out all the silk  pieces ready for this class.

ET (US and Canada); 7pm-11pm 12 September

List of tools and supplies required:

1. Natural white 100% silk , stiffened and precut.

Watch this Video here and prepare the parts of the rose according to it. You need a piece of silk 30×30 cm for the petals,  a piece 10×30 for the leaves and calyx and a piece of silk 10×30 for the lining. It is a good idea to use thicker silk for the leaves than for the petals and the lining.

If you live in Australia you can buy the kit here

Stiffener . You have to stiffen the silk before use it in flower making. Wash the silk in soapy water before applying the stiffener.

There are several different stiffening options available:

  • I make silk flowers using the mixture of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) stiffener and wood glue and it worked perfectly! More details and to buy it here

You can find how to make the PVA universal millinery stiffener from powder and my method of applying it to silk for flower making from the  VIdeo Tutorials on my YouTube Channel which you can watch here

  • One of the oldest and best known type of stiffener is gelatine. For 200 ml of cold water take 2 level teaspoons of granulated gelatine. Prepare the same way as I described for the PVA stiffener.
  • White PVA glue (wood) can also be used for stiffening silk. Mix 200 ml of warm water with 2 tablespoons of good quality thick PVA glue, stir well , add a tablespoon of vodka or similar  and give a final stir. Apply the stiffener to silk using the method above.
  • Ready to use fabric stiffener.

2. Stapler

3. Dyes. The dyes could be different types, powdered or concentrated liquids.

These are some dyes, that could be used for painting silk at flower making.
