2 days Silk & Leather flower making class. September 2024, Newcastle.
I have wonderful memories of being invited to teach at Timeless Textiles Gallery. It was a two-day workshop, each day offering something different.
On the first day, I introduced students to my Japanese silk iris. On the second day, we followed one of my favourite workshop formats—each student was free to create the flower they had always wanted to make. Some chose a sunflower, others a rose, camellia, or poppy, making the classroom wonderfully colourful and inspiring.
I have always enjoyed teaching this way. Every student naturally works at a different pace, so allowing everyone to create a different flower doesn’t make the workshop any more difficult for me. I still spend time with each person individually, offering guidance and helping them achieve the best possible result.
It was a joyful and inspiring class with a wonderful group of students. Many of them were milliners, and I truly hope to meet them again in another workshop somewhere in the future.
